At Centro Escolar Tlahuilli we recognize that the human being learns its language from a need to communicate; this is the reason why our work consists of presenting students several communicative situations in which they can apply their existing knowledge of our language and learn new tools of communication, both oral and written.

Our students participate in reading and reflection exercises about our language. We understand that reading is a process of constructing meaning by exchanging information between the child’s previous knowledge and the information provided by the written text. In our desire to nurture judgment and knowledge, we expose children to several texts, including: all kinds of books, advertisements, magazines, newspapers, labels, letters, publicity, posters, directories, receipts, notes, leaflets, flyers, manuals, instructive, menus, etc. This promotes their oral and written language mastery as they learn to interpret various kinds of texts.

Learning Spanish at Tlahuilli includes techniques beyond those we traditionally consider, such as reading speed and data memorization. Although these skills are important, they cannot exist in a vacuum and require the capacity to construct meaning and discern interpretation from a text.

Our students acquire reading strategies such as sampling, anticipation, confirmation and self-correction which allow them to internalize the decoding process. This permits the student to become the main agent of his own improvement.

As the child discovers the sounds of phonemes and syllables, he begins to see that sounds are part of a writing system.

The main purpose of the writing component is to develop in students the capacity to communicate through the written language. This is done by presenting several communicative situations in which the children have the need to communicate by creating their own original texts of increasing complexity related to everyday life. Students apply the knowledge that they have already been building on to increase their absorption of writing standards.

Our students have the ability to speak, read, and write in a critical and creative way. They learn ways to express and analyze in a particular way the effects, ideas and experiences, in their own lives and in the lives of others, allowing them to communicate efficiently in various situations.
